Team Africa! *Diplomacy World Cup*

Postby detroit_red » 15 Aug 2010, 22:11

You may have heard of this Playdip Diplomacy World Cup. You may have seen other team captains trying to recruit their fellows to represent some corner of the globe or other. Me, I'm glad to be seeing so much interest in second place. Because that's the best any of those feeble teams will earn now that Team Africa has entered the ring. If they even dream of beating us, they better wake up and apologize.

Because we're Africa. The center of the world. The land that begat all y'all. That's right: Africa is your daddy. Every single one of you. Just some of you had ancestors that bolted sooner than others. They probably ran screaming to cower under the covers, just like all the players who have signed up for some other team. It's cool, tremble away. We know why you're scared of us. You know what they say about the way my people are... gifted. It's twue.

Team Africa is open to all Africans and the African Diaspora. "Why play for Team Africa?" you might ask. I'll tell you why.

We have a sweet coat of arms:

And we have a flag. Do you have a flag?

Y'all empire builders got nothing on us now.

Plus, we have a theme song that whups on any theme song y'all could have: I'm a African.
Though if you have a weak stomach maybe you should just listen to this one instead.

All of my Africans, throw your hands up.

To the rest of y'all: Y'all want some diplomacy? Come get some.

I totally LOVE this thread! That's awesome! If I were remotely close to being from Africa, I'd be signing up right now. Sadly, I'm from the Western US...

Uh, DR, did you steal your coat of arms from where I think you stole it from?

Err... I don't think so? It's a composite coat of arms made from elements several national flags and/or coats of arms: the African Union, Angola, Burundi, the Canary Islands, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, and Mozambique. And similar elements are found in the iconography of plenty of other African nations--I tried to use bits from all over the continent. The fist and the motto (Swahili for freedom) are the only elements that aren't lifted directly from African flags/coats of arms, and they're extremely common symbols of African Nationalism and Pan-Africanism. I don't believe I've stolen from any other sources. But if someone else has made something similar, I'm curious to see it. Perhaps we plucked the same ideas out of the ether?

First of all...this is the best sign up thread in the history of sign up threads!

Secondly, as commanded by detroit_red, my hands are up!

Lastly, as person of Afrakan descent I would be honored to be a member of Team Africa. I will join detroit_red in dancing all over the rest of the play dip world cup teams faces as we stomp them into the ground to the tunes of our awesome theme songs, stake our team flags into their chests and imprint our coat of arms across their foreheads.

Sorry, i got a little carried away.

Viva la revolution!...wait, that's Spanish...oh well

Hey... I quite like this thread. A lot. It's awesome.

I was born in Africa in a place called Niger (no, not Nigeria) so I would very much like to join up if you'll take me DR.

I can play Dip respectably, so no problems there.

No idea what I am signing up for, but I like you and you do want a strong team, so count me in.

You can explain to me latter what it is I've signed up for here.

P.S. I am not Black. Will it present a problem signing up to Team Africa? :D
I will be running the London Marathon on 22nd April 2012 to raise funds to help disabled children and in memory of my darling wife who sadly passed away in January 2012.
