Secondly it strikes me that banning people who went off topic would involve banning most site members at some point or other. Certainly I would have been banned a couple of times and I dare say Craw and QoH would have as well. Craw posts too much to have NOT been given such a ban.

The "stay on topic" thing is obviously going to cause difficulties if we say that every post has to stay strictly on topic. As you say, SK, we all wander off topic: I don't think I've seen a debate where the topic had been strictly kept to without it meandering down at least one side issue, and who amongst us can resist the one-liner? What we're looking to restrain are the pointless posts: the kind of thing you're referring to is fine, I'd say.

And banning is pretty much a last resort:
"If the Moderators feel that a post is simply spam, the post will be deleted and action may be taken: A warning will be issued and a ban from the Forum may follow."
In practice, posts would usually be deleted and maybe a warning issued, depending upon how often a Mod has noticed it from one member, I guess. A ban would only happen if the warning(s) was/were ignored.

As for the Last Post Wins games, I think if they're there the kind of posts that are there will happen anyway. They're a bit of fun and easily ignored if you don't wanna see em.

A guy who visits brothels and swingers' clubs is going to have more sex than you.

A guy who posts on "Last post wins" threads is going to have a higher post count than you.

If you can do either without feeling dirty, more power to you.

They tried to ban me, but couldn't get up MY HILL. :P

Besides, WAT if there is a humorous and lighthearted post with little or no guidance of a topic, like "Last one to post Wins"? WAT happens when someone just posts WAT over & over again (like, 20 or 30 times)? Is that Spam?

...and now the 'Forum Etiquette' thread has many examples of what not to do.
