"Winner" email after a draw?

Postby lazarus13 » 23 May 2020, 02:24

Why when you end a game in a draw does the confirmation email include the word "winner"? When I read the rulebook it says you are the winner if your major power attains 18 supply centers, and you share equally in a draw. But it doesn't say you win when you draw.

Is there something I'm missing? I think that something along the lines of "congratulations you shared in a draw in your game" would be more accurate phrasing.

Sorry to add a new topic if it's already been answered but the search function said I was using terms that are too common.

It makes no sense, it's been there from start as far as I know. It causes problems as it teaches people to aspire to draw.

Since the new scoring system you can "win" the game but lose points. This alone teaches higher ranked players not to play for fear of losing points. But that's another subject.

Even in the old system it taught me to think I had won when i had got a four way. Its encouraging in some ways because the game can be so hard.

A two way draw is a good result and has merit. Can be a terrific result as can others draws but...

you are right they shouldn't be called wins.

You are both wrong. It doesn't say "..and you share equally in a draw", because that's a pleonasm. Every draw is equally, otherwise it is not a draw.

But what it says is: "in a draw the remaining players SHARE THE WIN EQUALLY. So it is still a win, albeit a shared win (and that might be less than a unshared win, admitedly). So the email saying "you are the winner of the game XY" is correct, because it doesn't say you are the sole winner.

The problem some people have is that they cannot share. That's an infantile psychologic attitude, and nothing to brag with.

OP, just in case you are doubting yourself, Jack is trolling you. The rulebook says what you remember it says. The first response you got is the important part.

I'm NOT trolling, you lamer. The troll is you.

Edit: Okay, I was sure I have read that, but can't find it anymore actually. But no matter, the sense of what I said is unchanged. And I won't stand to be called a troll. I do NEVER troll. But the one who calls another a troll is the troll himself, because he tries to end the discussion without bringing any argument.

However. I was never disturbed by a mail calling me a winner, even if I had "only" drawed. On the contrary, it puts me in a positive and happy mood. What kind of people are those who don't treat others to a happy mood?
