Chaos Variant Auto-Disband Rule Question

Postby Phlegmatic » 02 Jul 2019, 14:12

Hi all,

How does the software calculate which unit to disband for a surrendered player, in Chaos variant?

I think the standard rules remove a unit furthest from the "home centres", choosing a fleet first if available, then armies. Given that Chaos doesn't have the same home centres as standard, does it remove a unit far from this specific game's starting positions, or does it remove according to the standard home centres of the power in question (so units far from the British Isles if you are playing "England")?

Thanks in advance

It's in here https://www.playdiplomacy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=707&t=15122 but to save you the trouble,
2. Auto-disbands now happen according to the rules
If disbands are required during a build phase and they are not specified, then the algorithm for disbands is to find those units furthest from a home SC in terms of moves. If two units are equidistant, then the tie-breaker is fleet before army, and if necessary then alphabetical order. Note that when counting the distance, an army's distance counts one move per sea space rather than one move per possible convoy.

EDIT: 2a.Build Anywhere auto-disband rules For any variant that uses Build Anywhere rules (e.g. Chaos) there is no concept of a "home SC". In that case, auto-disbands are determined, 1. Non-SC before SC, 2. Fleet before Army, 3. Alphabetical

So the answer to your question is as highlighted
