Pausing a game

Postby shagsj » 26 Jan 2012, 12:36

Hi All,

we are playing a game with 6 friends but we are all on holidays at the moment. Is there a way to pause the game for a while?

Cheers,

Shags

Yes. If you get ALL the players of remaining countries to post in the Public Press area that you want to pause the game, and when you want to pause it until, then just PM a Mod and we can change it for you. But we need all remaining players to agree.

If you need to go away for a holiday, then you should ideally look for a substitute (see HERE). We don't pause games just because someone is on holiday, unless it is agreed by everyone in the game as explained above. However, the better thing to do is not join a game if you know you are going to be away. That way you don't mess the other players around.

Games lasts for months usually. Everyone will have holidays. How does playdip behave on Christmas, New year, Easter and so on? Are there days off?

When a game is set up, the creator can specify exceptions, for example do not set deadlines on weekends, do not set deadlines on Christmas Day, etc.

Sorry, I didn't finish that.

You can see the exceptions in the game details on the Join screen before you join, so you will always know the settings for the game you choose to play.

As for your personal holiday, if you have a game going then as Rick said, you find a substitute. There is a 'name a substitute' line at the bottom of the game description on your Active Games display. Follow the link Rick gave you and read all about it!

Most of us just keep playing if there is any possible way to get to the internet.

1. Depends on the deadlines; 2/1/1 don't last more than a month and change. 7/7/7...well...that's a different beast entirely.
2. Play deadlines you can comfortably meet on a day-to-day basis (I.E if you spend weekends away, play no-weekends or at least 3/3/3; if some days you can't get on, 2/2/2 or even 2/1/1 works).
3. Don't join games right before you leave on vacation. If a game goes long, get a sub.

Is there a way for broadcasting the need of sub? I mean a pool of games needing a sub (where a leaving player can post a request), or a pool of players available for substitutions (where he can find his sub).
