Zeus 5-France Game started

Postby asudevil » 09 Jun 2012, 16:21

So, there was discussion of adding Zeus to the main website...but then no one knew which version to play. We thought in version 4 (played during the tournament), that US was too strong...so we looked at v5 which adds France instead of Italy.

So, I will be running Zeus 5. This is going to run on a 3/1/1 timeline. It will start whenever I feel we have 7 players who I feel comfortable running this with. This is not an invitational, but it is also not first come first served. If we are trying to look at balance and stuff in the game, I need to make sure I have no NMR's and people are communicating.

It will be a blind-bidding game, so do not talk about your preferences in thread, or I cant let you play.

Sign-ups start now.

The only special rules are as on the side of the map. There are a couple of canal spaces. There are some island/sea spaces in the pacific that fleets or armies can be in. Control of the sea counts as control of the island. Also, US and Rome are alternate build spaces for US/Germany if they own them.

im intrigued very much so, but i really dont see why italy cant also be included.

all three were powers at the time (germany being the other) on the european continent.

Well...Couple reasons...first...I didnt write the map...Its a map that I found from another site...and every version of the map (all 6) has only 7 powers.

Second...if we are trying to find something for the web-site, it has to be a 7player (or less) variant...

Are you interested enough to play, or is the no-Italy a deal-breaker for you?

Probably around a week...completely depends on how fast it fills...but I think it should fill pretty quickly.

Would it make sense to replace italy for China

As I recall from my history, china would not have even survived WWII had it not been for American military support against Japanese aggression.

I think adding a SC in europe for Italy (or africa), and removing one in the now neutral china would make more sense and keep the 7 power rule.

That is a valid thought that you are welcome to try out on your own game. However, Zeus V-F was brought up for me to test out so the site could see balance on it after a test run, since none of us have ever played it.

My biggest issue with your thought is it allows Japan to run wild because no one is there to keep it in check...So I will be running Zeus V-F because its a standard map that can be found in multiple places. Im not looking to design my own or tweak something I have never played before...just play test something someone else made to check for balance for the main-site.

china itself becomes a neutral, Non-SC space to compensate, and japan cant run wild.

I understand though and respect your decision.

Ill still sign up, my premium has gone dark and i should start signing up for some forum games :)

But you said you would remove ONE sc from neutral china...there are 3 there...so what about the other 2...I still think it would make Japan just way to strong not having to deal with anyone over there other than USSR.

Anyway, I will still gladly sign you up.

Hey, Asudevil...I would be happy to test...but I got to finish up three games right now....and I'll never be able to give you the time and attention you need. I will eagerly watch the action, though..

To address Malevolence's point...yes, China didn't fair very well in WWII (just as Turkey didn't fair very well in WWI)....but what if Mao or Chiang won their civil war in 1939? Even as a divided country, China really tied down a lot of Japanese resources. Remember, you can be a much better general than Chiang ever was....
